VAJIRA & LARISSA’S FUNDRAISING RUN

$19,118.95 of $100,000.00 raised

Vajira is running 500km to raise AUD$100,000 towards the first ever Palliative Care Hospital in Sri Lanka. Since November 2016 he has already completed 382km of the 500km challenge by several marathons and ultra marathons.  Most recent race was on August 12, 42km Night Trail Marathon in Obidos, Portugal. 
Larissa Tichon has also joined Vajira to support the cause. Larissa is a high-achieving elite athlete with Australian and World records in endurance running.

Larissa will be running to claim the Guinness Book of records title for the fastest marathon while wearing a cartoon costume (SpongeBob SquarePants!) on 17 September 2017

Palliative care for Chronic Kidney Disease of unknown origin (CKDu) in Sri Lanka

Shanthi Foundation, a charity registered in Australia, has been helping Sri Lanka to develop palliative care and combat CKDu over the last two years. HOME-BASED PALLIATIVE CARE

Looking after patients with life limiting illnesses in the comfort of their own homes, through the training of Shanthi Nurses with access to transport to the home.

KENDA (KUNDGI/PORRIDGE) PROGRAM

Aiming to improve the nutrition of kids in rural and remote areas of Sri Lanka through the distribution of a porridge made from native organic rice. This program will also support the growth and farming of the native organic rice in rural Sri Lanka.

EQUIPMENT DONATION PROGRAM

Acquiring new and used (but in good condition) medical equipment for re-purposing across various locations in Sri Lanka.

PATIENT AND FAMILY SPONSORSHIP

Providing an income to families where the breadwinner is suffering from a life threatening illness and can no longer work to support their family.

PALLIATIVE CARE TRAINING

Training for doctors , nurses & allied health staff through the Australian Institute of Palliative Medicine (AIPM), and other partner organisations in developing countries such as Sri Lanka & India.
